Board of Directors
Our board of directors governs the Family & Children's Law Center and works closely with the executive director to maintain funding for our not-for-profit mission to provide legal assistance to low-income families in Marin County.

Deborah Breiner
Deborah L. Breiner, an estate planning attorney in San Rafael, has been a member of the board since 1998. Deborah grew up in San Rafael, earned her bachelor's degree at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and her law degree at Harvard Law School. In her spare time, she runs, performs on the flying trapeze, and enjoys gardening.
Ingrid Carbone
Ingrid Carbone, a family lawyer in Marin County, practices with her father, William Johnson, in Sausalito. While in law school, she worked as an intern at FACLC, and was delighted when she was asked to join the board in 2005. When not practicing law, Ingrid enjoys cycling, hiking, cooking, reading and a variety of other activities that are currently on hold as she cares for her newborn son.
Cheryl Cinelli
A board member since 2007, Cheryl Cinelli is a senior vice president in the Credit Management Group of the Bank of Marin in Novato. Cheryl earned a bachelor's degree at Saint Mary's College in Moraga, and lives in Kentfield with her husband and two children. She's also a board member of Youth in Arts, and her community involvement has included work for the Kentfield Schools Foundation, Sunny Hills Services, Habitat for Humanity and Huckleberry Youth Programs.
John A. Gamblin
John A. Gamblin is a vice president for the Marin County region of the Wells Fargo Private Bank. He earned a BA at the University of California at Irvine, and an MA at the University of Phoenix. John is a former member of the board of directors of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Cascade County, and lives in San Rafael with his wife and daughter.
Robert Kaufman
A member of the board since 2005, Robert Kaufman, Ph.D., is a clinical and forensic psychologist who has specialized in family law and the treatment and assessment of children for over 20 years. He has taught and supervised in several Bay Area graduate programs, including UC Berkeley, the Wright Institute and Alliant University. In addition, Bob is a senior trial consultant at the firm of Bonora D'Andrea in San Francisco. He's an avid cyclist, hiker and traveler, preferably to places off the beaten path.
Sarah Killingsworth
A former president of the board, Sarah Killingsworth has been practicing family law in California since 1998, when she received her degree from Stanford Law School. Sarah is a partner at Simborg-Killingsworth in Corte Madera, and a specialist in family law, certified by the California Board of Legal Specialization. Her practice includes collaborative law, mediation, consultation and litigation.
Robert Kristoff
Robert Kristoff is a partner in the San Francisco office of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker, LLP, where he practices labor and employment law. Bob is a regent of Marin Catholic High School and has served on the boards of the American Diabetes Association, Metrolight Studios and Schurman Fine Papers, Inc. He's a graduate of Harvard College and Boston College School of Law.
Haynes Lindley
A member of the board since 2006, Haynes Lindley has been a deputy public defender for Los Angeles County and a prosecutor for the State Bar of California. He has served on the boards of TreePeople, the Southern California Association for Philanthropy, the Claremont Graduate School and the Marin Agricultural Land Trust.

Julie McMillan
A board member since 2003, Julie McMillan is a graduate of the Stanford Law School and the University of California at Los Angeles, and was a litigation partner at O'Melveny & Myers in San Francisco. Some of her community roles include serving as a Ross School District Trustee and on the Sunny Hills Services board. She and her husband, Timothy Baughman, have three children.
Martin J. Ruane
Martin J. Ruane, a partner in the San Rafael law firm Reid, Axelrod, McCormack, Griffis & Ruane, specializes in insurance defense work. He's a graduate of the University of California, San Diego, and the San Francisco Law School. A San Francisco native, Marty lives in Marin County with his wife and three daughters.
David Sutton
A board member since 1997, David Sutton is an attorney and psychotherapist whose practice is devoted to mediation and arbitration of legal disputes. David's primary philanthropic focus is on enhancing legal services for low-income residents of Marin and San Francisco Counties. He's also a member of the board of Legal Aid of Marin.
Michael H. Wechsler
Michael H. Wechsler is the chief financial officer and senior vice president of finance and administration for the Pacific Maritime Association in San Francisco. He's also a trustee of the ILWU-PMA Pension, 401(k) Savings and Welfare Plans that provide benefits for longshore workers on the West Coast, and earned graduate and undergraduate degrees at the University of Florida.
