In addition to our two administrative staff, we have three attorneys (one is bilingual) and a bilingual receptionist.
Our board of directors governs the Family & Children's Law Center and works closely with the executive director to maintain funding for our not-for-profit mission to provide legal assistance to low-income families in Marin County.
Joanne Bertozzi is a Certified Public Accountant. Her practice is devoted exclusively to assisting the Courts, parties and counsel in various accounting issues that arise in marital dissolutions. She is a partner in the firm of Jones, Schiller and Company, LLP and has been a member of the Board since fall of 2010. Joanne is often appointed by the Courts to act as a neutral expert and is an advocate of all types of alternative dispute resolution.
A member of the board since 2005, Robert Kaufman, Ph.D., is a clinical and forensic psychologist who has specialized in family law and the treatment and assessment of children for over 20 years. He has taught and supervised in several Bay Area graduate programs, including UC Berkeley, the Wright Institute and Alliant University. In addition, Bob is a senior trial consultant at the firm of Bonora D'Andrea in San Francisco. He's an avid cyclist, hiker and traveler, preferably to places off the beaten path.
Ms. Victor-Smith is a Marin County native with over 13 years of experience in the financial services industry. Melanie has been with Opes Advisors for 6 years and prior to that was with First Horizon Bank/Elliot Ames, Inc. where she was in the top 10% of sales professionals nationwide. Melanie is a graduate of University of California, Berkeley. Melanie is a registered Series 65 Investment Advisor Representative and a Personal Finance & Mortgage Advisor at Opes. Melanie works with Opes clients to assist them in realizing their financial objectives, reviewing the appropriate financial structure and to ensure their success in purchasing their homes and preparing for retirement. Melanie lives with her husband and two daughters in Mill Valley.
